What is compounding?
Compounding is finding ways to make medicine easier
to take for patients. It's making medications in different
dosage strengths and forms when one is not commerically
available. It is working with your physician to find the best
possible way to help you achieve the best health possible. In
effect, compounding is problem-solving.
When and why do I need
compounding?
Compounding is needed in some of these situations:
When drugs are not commerically available
When a drug needs to be customized for the
customer's unique needs
When a special drug dose or strength is
needed
When it is not affordable for a manufacturer to
make a drug
A different flavor and/or color can be added to a
medication
What specific kinds of problems can
compounding solve?
Here are some examples of "compounding in action" :
A child will not take their antibiotic because
they do not like the taste. We can make antibiotics in a
sugar-free chocolate flavor in a bear mold.
A cat will not take their thyroid tablet.
We can make the thyroid medication in a topical gel that is
applied to their inner ear flap.
A dog cannot swallow tablets or capsules.
We can make their medication into a tasty dog biscuit, in whatever
flavor they like.
Whether you need a particular dosage strength, or a
better tasting medication, or whatever the case may be, rest
assured that we can find the solution. Let us be your
problem-solving specialists!
